Skidmore College is a private, independent, liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, which is a city in Saratoga County, in the US state of New York, with a population estimated at a number of more than 26 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.
The college was established in 1903, first starting as the Young Women's Industrial Club, becoming Skidmore School of the Arts, in 1911, in 1922, officially adopting its current name.
Skidmore currently offers its students bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees in more than 60 areas of study, including summer programs and degree completion programs, the college being listed as one of the `New Ivies`, 41st in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report ranking of liberal arts colleges, and, also, being rated 80th of America's Best Colleges, by Forbes.
Skidmore's athletic teams are known as the Thoroughbreds and they compete in NCAA Division III.
